Are you looking for some motivational thoughts to help you get off the couch? In this section I'll describe some ways to help get yourself moving. Motivation can be the biggest hurdle for many people to lose weight and get in shape. So many people want to be that person who is fit and healthy, but the couch and the potato chips have us chained down somehow.
If you can get your head in the game, that is one of the biggest steps you can take. When you can go from "Maybe someday I'll get in shape" to "That's it, I want to get in shape and I'm starting now" that is huge. That single thought of "starting now" will carry you through for a very long time. That is called intrinsic motivation.
Intrinsic motivation will carry you through the dark times. It comes from inside you. It's a thought and that's it. But that simple thought is like the tiny acorn that will eventually grow into a mighty oak tree. There is another type of motivation, called extrinsic motivation, that is good too, but it is based on wants outside yourself and doesn't always last as long as intrinsic motivation.
Extrinsic motivation goes something like this - "I want to lose weight to look good at the beach". Not a bad goal. This type of motivation can get you going and working out. It may not work for the long haul, though. Will that thought last for years and years? Maybe not. Think of it like this - extrinsic is shorter term and comes from outside, while intrinsic is longer-term and comes from inside. So extrinsic motivation is good, but intrinsic motivation is better.
